Want to add more life to your years?...

Music is a great way to take life moments up a notch!

Music is a simple, yet powerful way to set the tone of an event, your day, even your mood.  A lot of emotion can be tied up in music.  Often, certain songs are attached to some or our best memories in life.  Through the years, Brooke and Lynne have shared a love for all kinds of music.  And, they both have a bit of musical background in their past.  In fact, Dr. Lynne played the trumpet and toured Europe in highschool.  She even played for the POPE!  And, Dr. Brooke played the piano (though not very well)- You can hear more about one of her most embarassing moments in this week's episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne, The Music Video.  We're talking all about MUSIC and what a great tool it can be for making each moment count in midlife.

There are so many practical uses for music in life.  Music can express your faith, it can be a connection with your teens, it can lift a bad mood, and it can be a form of catharsis if you need to process built up emotions. It can also be a creative outlet which is so important for emotional well being.  Here's are a few simple ways to bring more music into your life.

  • Music can break the ice- play it when spending time with people you're just getting to know

  • Take parties and get togethers up a notch with back ground music. Not sure where to start? Play background instrumental music on spotify.

  • Go to a concert! If you haven't been in a while, give it a try. We guarantee you'll have a blast and maybe even shake your thang!

  • Play relaxing music the next time your're taking a hot bath for a more restful and calming experience.

  • Did you play an instrument as a child? Maybe now is the time to start taking lessons and playing again!

Consider for a moment that music can be an allegory for midlife.  And start asking yourself these questions..."How can you bring the music out of you?" "How can you get more music in your life?" How can you bring your music to the world?" Be intentional about choosing the soundtrack of your midlife.  Get started now by clicking the picture above to watch this week's episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne, The Music Video.  And don't forget that everything elevates just a little bit more when music is involved- more relaxation, more fun, more joking, more dancing, more enjoyment!  Couldn't all of us benefit from a little more of these things in midlife?!

If you're having a party and you're not playing music, you're doing it wrong.

-Dr. Lynne
