Episode 40: The Vision Board Video

If you wait until the beginning of the year to start setting your goals, you may be 90 days too late.

By the time midlife is upon us, we've accomplished a lot.  Our kids are growing and becoming independent, and we may not be pushing the way we did in our 20's and 30's.  If we aren't intentional about what we want, life starts happening to us, and all of a sudden we get 2,3,4, even 5 years down the road and we're like, "what just happened?"

In our 40's, 50's and beyond, we still have so much life to live.  It helps to have a blueprint for the way we want to live our life.  Think of goal setting as your blueprint.  Now listen, goals don't always have to be a thing you're striving for.  They could be emotions you want to create more of in your life.  Whatever it is you're reaching for, if you want to live your best midlife, then you have to put your goals down in a concrete way. And, you have to be intentional about what you want your life to look like.  Vision boarding is a great way to get started with the goal setting process.  And, this happens to be the perfect time of year to begin this activity.  That's why this week's episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne is all about Vision Boarding.

A few things to note about a vision board:

  • Start now in order to set the stage for goal planning and setting in the beginning of the new year

  • Vision Boards are very accesible and approachable because they give you a clear visual of your goals

  • The visuals on the board help you connect emotionally to your goals. They drive you to take action. They bring you back to your why.

  • Vision boards help you commit to the things most important to you so you stop filling your week with meaningless tasks.

  • There are a few different ways to vision board. We talk about them in the video.

If writing down goals makes you feel a little fearful, don't feel bad.  Taking a leap of faith and dreaming big dreams for the next phase of your life often takes some courage.  If the thought of creating an entire vision board sounds overwhelming, start slowly by writing down one small thing you'd like to accomplish. Once it becomes a more comfortable habit, write down bigger things.  Learn more about vision boarding for the years ahead by clicking the picture above to watch this week's episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne, The Vision Board Video.  And keep in mind, failure isn't not reaching a goal.  Failure is not trying.  So pick one thing, or pick a few things, have bravery and courage around doing it, and then GO FOR IT!

We usually overestimate what we can accomplish in a day and underestimate what we can accomplish in a lifetime.
