Episode 66: The Menopause Nobody’s Talking About Video

In this episode of Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne, we’re discussing unsual symptoms of menopause that you may not be aware of. We’re also sharing some of our own struggles with hormonal changes in midlife. When midlife women know we’re not alone menopauseis so much easier to deal with.

Menopause...Friend or Foe?  Maybe it's a little of both…

It's a bit of a love hate relationship.  While the symptoms of menopause can be so difficult and tiresome to deal with, we're pretty sure we should all love menopause because after it's over, NO MORE PERIODS!

Maybe you've heard us ask before, but we're going to ask again.  Why aren't more people talking about menopause?  We feel strongly that this time in our lives would be so much easier to navigate if we would start sharing our struggles, and talking more about how we're feeling as our hormones and bodies are changing. Just like life, menopause is so much easier to accept and deal with when we know we're not alone.  Plus there are many symptoms that nobody is mentioning or talkng about.  So when we experience them, we may think something is wrong with our body.  This alone can cause us so much stress, because sometimes the not knowing and wondering what's wrong is far worse than what's actually taking place.

Well, we want to shed more light on this topic and reduce all of our stress levels.  That's why we're talking all about unusual symptoms of menopause as we share some of our own struggles with you in this week's episode of
Life after Kids, The Menopause Nobody's Talking About Video. We've included a few highlights below.

  • For some of us, hormone changes can start earlier than we realize. Some will begin to notice changes with their body and cycle due to hormone shifts in their early 40's or even late 30's

  • ANXIETY can be one of the most difficult things to navigate due to menopause, and many of us don't even know it's a symptom.  If anxiety is something new you're dealing with it could be due to hormone changes.  Dr. Brooke talks a bit about her own struggle with this in today's episode

  • DIZZINESS is another lesser talked about menopausal symptom.  This is something Dr. Lynne dealt with more recently and to say it was unsettling is an understatement.

  • BODY ODOR Ugh!  This one is certainly no fun to deal with.  Sadly hormone changes can also cause odor changes

  • EXTREME INTROVERSION- it's not uncommon to have a tendency to want to go inward during this time, especially around your period if you're still getting one.  Give yourself grace and moments to rest and be alone when needed.

  • OTHER SYMPTOMS: burning tongue, cold flushes, ringing in the ears, clumsiness, and heart palpitations.

WOW!  All we can say is midlife women are so tough and tenacious.  We're dealing with things like being clumsy, stinky, shy, and anxious but we are still showing up every day, living our lives in the best way we know how.  And listen, we're not doomed to just suck it up and deal with all the craziness of menopause.

There are practical steps we can take to be healthier and vibrant during menopause.  First, don't hesitate to talk to other women in your life about what your body is going through.  When we share and realize we're all in this together, it makes this phase of life so much more manageable.  Also, when it comes to your body, nobody knows it like you do.  During this phase of life, you must be your own advocate.  If you know something is off but you're not getting any answers, don't give up.  Keep searching.  Perhaps, consider seeking help outside of traditional allopathic doctors.  There are so many wise, well trained holistic practitioners and functional medicine doctors who will consider every piece to your health puzzle.  For now, take a deeper dive into all things menopause by clicking the picture above to watch Life after Kids with Drs. Brooke and Lynne, The Menopause Nobody's talking About Video.  And rest assured, you're not going through this alone.

Why not just embrace it, go along with it, and welcome it.
